GORDON STEWART: An exploration of Phonetics in French Song and a Masterclass

Gordon Stewart is a senior vocal coach at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he also leads classes on song and operatic repertoire. In this Masterclass he informed, refreshed and guided us through the nuances of pronunciation in French Song and then give a masterclass to three young, rising singers.

An Introduction to Estill: The Art and Science of Singing 25/11/16 Anne-Marie (Voice and Singing Teacher)and Kiereen Locke (Speech and Language Therapist) introduced us to the Estill Model, a uniquely practical explanation of the vocal function used by singers and Speech and Language Therapists alike, to inform their singing, teaching or clinical approach. We were very fortunate to have such a joint presentation - and it was both hugely illuminating and great fun! |

Alison Mary Sutton gave both a lecture and a workshop with Canto this year.
Singing teacher, Sam Howard, who attended Alison Mary Sutton's lecture, gave the following review: "Alison speaks with absolute knowledge within her field of expertise.
She explained her work with passion & humility, giving credit to the team of specialists she works with. Her techniques were concise & easy to follow & the practical exercises we did were instantly beneficial. I will now be including these in my singing studio. I look forward to more of the same at her November workshop."

Natalya Romaniw: Optimal audience communication and maintaining vocal well-being under the pressures of performance.
This multiple prize-winning young soprano www.natalyaromaniw.com is equally at home on the opera stage, concert platform or in the recital hall. This extraordinary artist presented an evening concentrating on the delivery and communication of text and offered her tips for maintaining vocal health under the pressures of performance. The evening was topped off by a wonderful recital from Natalya herself - what a voice!

Paul Deegan: An Evening of Two Halves
Past Head of Vocal Studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Choral Director gave us an evening of two halves - first an entertaining and practical presentation of ideas for developing and encouraging musicianship in amateur choirs and second, a masterclass for young singers from Canto Song School.

MIKE CUNNINGHAM: 24th April. A Performance Anxiety specialist who works with top actors, musicians, teachers, sports and business people. The event was a great success and Mike managed to offer excellent advice and practical tips in response to a wide variety of queries and questions from Canto Community members, as well as from musicians and performers from further afield who braved the difficult transport conditions on the day! Here are some photos from the event, kindly taken for us by Anna MacLeod.
