                   SINGING                                   PERFORMANCE

"I remember the first time, through your teaching, that I came to realise that singing the song is only a part of the performance. I aspire to carry myself like this when I perform and consider your excellent teaching a privilege for me to experience…..I feel so lucky to have found such a stunning and inspiring teacher."

"I would like to say thank you for all the work you do with J. His confidence has grown so much over the last couple of years and he is happy to sing for others at home, with friends and at school. He also sang in a concert at his old prep school last week and reduced several mothers to tears, including his own."

"What I wanted to say was THANK YOU very much for everything you have taught me in the last year. I enjoyed every single lesson, in fact, they were the highlight of my week. 11.00 am on a Tuesday put a smile on my face. I have learned so much as a singer…..you even managed to make me open myself up. My only regret is that that I didn’t start singing lessons sooner!"

"I honestly didn’t think I’d be able to sing the Alleluia but thanks to your perseverance and encouragement, I got there in the end. I was amazed and delighted!"

"Thank you so much for everything you have done for me. You are the best teacher I could ever have had: you have taught me so much and I have enjoyed every single lesson we’ve had. I feel like I’ve come so far as a singer and a performer and it is all thanks to your support and excellent teaching."

"May I take this opportunity to thank you for the conscientious approach you have shown towards your teaching, your imaginative flair, and the care you have shown to your pupils over the last three years. (Eastbourne College)"
"Having opportunities to perform for family and friends, has helped me with not only developing my voice and my confidence,  but also generally in life."

"Taking part in the Mini-masterclasses has helped me so much; not only to develop vocally but also in performance and confidence and I really appreciate all that you have gone out of your way to do for me and other students."

"Through your support and encouragement and the chance to perform my pieces, which I dreaded to start with,  I have gone from being paralysed by nerves in public to being able to enjoy expressing myself. Hurrah!"

"Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed taking part in the performance practice event last Friday. It was great to have the opportunity to accompany and also face my own anxieties about performing in public. Such a friendly and supportive environment!"

"The opportunities to perform have allowed me to realise that I don’t have to be perfect, just sincere."

SUNG VOICE THERAPY

MASTERCLASSES,

LECTURES

COURSES, SPECIAL EVENTS

"Sara and Lucinda of Canto Song and Voice School can work miracles!
After many years of singing in choirs, as well as being a teacher which placed its own strain on my voice, I suffered an extreme and long-lasting bout of bronchitis followed by a thyroid operation, after which my singing voice gradually faded away.
It felt as if my vocal folds had seized up and I had difficulty getting any sound out at all. I was forced to give up my lifetime-long hobby and I resigned myself to just listening to the music I loved.
Then, after ten years of no singing, Canto Song and Voice School was recommended to me and, since then, I haven't looked back!
Within six months of gentle exercises and learning new ways of breathing and producing sounds, Sara had miraculously coaxed my vocal folds into motion and, to my joy and surprise, I could sing again!
Then I moved on to singing lessons with Lucinda, who has used her vast range of experience as a performer and teacher to improve my singing and teach me new techniques in a way that is both sympathetic and fun.
It is a joy to work with such lovely ladies who can produce such amazing results.
I cannot recommend them highly enough."

"Thank you dear both for your warm hospitality.  As I have already said, I enjoyed the experience and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere of the event. You both do a marvellous job for local singers and teachers and put so much energy and imagination into it. You know I will always be ready to contribute to your work in any way you may consider suitable. Warmest greetings and good wishes."

Maestra Laura Sarti,  Internationally renowned  Singing Teacher

"Thank you so much to all of you who thought, and then did all it took, to bring about last night's lecture...It was greatly inspiring to hear Ron talk and very exciting to feel part of such a great bunch of people right on our doorstep.  It was well worth moving heaven and hell to rearrange my own teaching to come and I'm already looking forward to the next lecture."

Ansy Boothroyd, Singer and Singing Teacher

"Thanks to you both for arranging tonight's talk.
It was both informative and useful."

Pippa Dames-Longworth - Singer/Specialist Advisor Trinity Laban

The lecture the other night was MOST enlightening - an informed and  brilliant speaker and very funny!

"I just wanted to say thank you for all the help you both gave me with my  vocal problems over last summer - and I wanted to let you know that, because of all you taught me,   I have now graduated with a First"

"I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Canto Song and Voice School.
As a postgraduate in singing from Trinity College of Music, I started attending singing lessons with Lucinda in order to revive my voice with which I was having trouble. I had a problem with my throat which we believed may have been down to poor breathing/breath flow technique.
I was encouraged to visit an ENT specialist and it was diagnosed that I indeed did have a throat problem which might be able to be remedied through singing and speech therapy. Continuing with singing lessons and working hard on my breathing and airflow was invaluable but the throat issue did not really improve generally  so Lucinda suggested I saw Sara, a SALT, to see if she could shed any light on the issue.
After a very productive session with Sara in which she highlighted and confirmed many of the things Lucinda had been saying about my breathing, she recommended that I go to see Ann, a laryngeal osteopath, about the throat issue.
After one session with Ann, she had completely fixed the twist in my throat and the trouble I had been having for over six months had completely disappeared.
I continue to see Ann once in a while to check that things are still okay and have regular singing lessons with Lucinda which are very rewarding.

I have been fortunate enough to experience all three aspects of CANTO and can fully appreciate how they all intertwine together."

Endorsement for Janine Roebuck ('Soprano with a Secret' workshop - deafness in singers)

"I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the event last Friday. I have been raving about Janine to anyone who will listen ever since. She was amazing - so inspirational! I was holding back the tears for much of the time because what she was saying just rang so true for me even though my hearing loss is only moderate. I wish I had taken all my friends and family and singing colleagues to hear her opening remarks about what a deaf person is not...

I'm a keen amateur singer (aged 46) who started losing my hearing about 15 years ago and recently I'd been starting to question how much longer I could go on singing for as I have been struggling with my latest NHS hearing aids. It's not so much the actual singing (although I always worry about finding my starting note) as not being able to hear the conductor speaking in rehearsals or the chit-chat with other choir members (I sing in two choirs - the Brighton Orpheus and a little ladies choir called Women of Note where there are just 12 of us). But Janine's story was just so inspiring and I was blown away by her resolve and her adoption of the latest technology. Not mention her fantastic voice (both singing and speaking)!

Thank you so much for arranging this talk and thank you to Janine for such a passionate, interesting, humorous, entertaining and inspiring evening. When we got to the questions from the audience it felt like being in a support group which was just so lovely. Again I was just trying to hold back the tears and had a good old weep at the bus station waiting for my bus home.

I have now booked an appointment to see what private hearing aids can do for me - I am determined to stop missing out on so much and keep singing as long as I possibly can!

Endorsement for Alison Mary Sutton (workshop on Voice Clinic work)

Alison Mary Sutton speaks with absolute knowledge within her field of expertise.
She explained her work with passion & humility, giving credit to the team of specialists she works with. The stroboscope images she presented, along with her explanation of how she helped rehabilitate clients to regain full vocal health, were extraordinary. Her techniques were concise & easy to follow & the practical exercises we did were instantly beneficial. I will now be including these in my singing studio. I look forward to more of the same at her November workshop.
